Add Twitter Ads to Your Technology Marketing

You can now promote your account and tweets on Twitter to generate awareness, increase followers, and enrich your Twitter efforts.

Its official, Twitter has opened their advertising capabilities to all Twitter users. In the past, you had to be invited to use Twitter Ads and spend a minimum amount each quarter. Now anyone or any company can take advantage of the service. That means you! And that’s exciting.

Why should you care about Twitter Ads?

  1. Brand awareness – the purpose of Twitter Ads is to promote your account or tweets, meaning you appear front and center on users’ news feeds.
  2. Increased followers & interaction – If you are front and center on their news feeds you are more likely to catch their attention and hopefully they will follow you or interact with you.
  3. Enriched Experience – If more users are following you and interacting with you, Twitter has now become a more useful and enriching experience for your company and possible clients.

How do you get started? First, it is helpful to know Twitter Ads are set up a lot like Facebook ads – a self-service ad platform. So, if you have experience with Facebook Ads this will be a breeze, and if you don’t, rest assured you will catch on quickly.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Log into your account
  2. Click on the settings icon in the top right corner
  3. Click Twitter Ads in the drop down menu

From there, Twitter has done an excellent job explaining how it works and what you need to do. Here is an overview, so you can prepare before you get started:

  • Who you want to target – this is basically the demographic and psychographic information around your target audience – their location/s, their interests, etc.
  • What you want to promote – Twitter automatically promotes your account, but here is where you can choose the exact tweets from your account that you want to promote, or you can create a custom tweet to promote.
  • How much you want to spend – you can put in a max day limit and a max bid limit for the tweet and account promotion. Twitter will help you here by suggesting a bid price based on the other criteria you specified.
  • How you want to pay – have a credit card ready.

And you’re campaign is underway!

After your campaign starts, you will be able to track results. You also have the ability to pause or change your campaign criteria whenever you want. Keep in mind; you should go into this with goals and objectives determined, so you have something to work towards and a way to control your efforts.
